Infrastructure Minister gives update on plans to create accessible bus routes
The infrastructure minister says her department is working to create three new mobility-scooter friendly bus routes by the end of the year.It follows work to install Kassel Kerbs, which allow step-free access onto buses, at 30 stops around the Island.Currently, users of class 2 mobility scooters can apply for the right to use one service - troute 21 - which operates from the city centre to the outskirts of the capital. On Mannin Line last month, Ramsey resident Eric Corkish, who has been campaigning to be able to take his scooter onto the Island's public transport network for the past six years, questioned Minister Michelle Haywood about when details of other routes will be made available - to which she replied 'in a couple of weeks or so'.However, since then, Mr Corkish says he's been left questioning if he'd ever be able to get onboard after the minister told him she didn't have a specific date from which access would be permitted. But Minister Michelle Haywood told Manx Radio that moment won't be in the too distant future:
AGENDA:

Agenda 20.10.25 - Lord Daniel Finkelstein on party politics and Mitch Sorbie on Isle of Man First
Would party politics work in the Isle of Man? Lord Finkelstein thinks that on the one hand it might and yet on the other hand it might be no better than what we’ve got! Mitch Sorbie on the other hand seems keen to establish his new party Isle of Man First which, at first glance would substantially reduce government income while being rather vague on how expenditure reduction would be delivered. Mr Sorbie suggests “where there’s a will there’s a way” while Lord Finkelstein notes the only thing the public hates more than a politician is a politician who’s rubbish at politics.

PERSPECTIVE:
-
Perspective 19.10.25 - what are the MUA’s plans for the Island’s energy, water and sewerage infrastructure?
Tynwald’s Environment and Infrastructure Committee held an evidence session with officers from the MUA last week and there were several revelations which should be of interest to us all. A thousand Manx households are contributing 7 megawatts of renewable energy to the Manx grid and the MUA is working closely with private sector renewable energy projects in the south and north of the Island. So what does this mean for future energy production for the Isle of Man? Has government been too focussed on renewable energy production and not clear enough in helping the MUA understand future energy usage. The vital sparks at the MUA reveal all.
