Something that has been in the news a lot recently is the issue of waiting lists at Noble's Hospital. Two years ago, Manx Care brought over Scottish based company Synaptik to help carry out a number of procedures. So how has that partnership been for both teams, and what has it meant for Manx patients? Siobhán Fletcher caught up with Tracy Kelly - the senior nurse liaison lead for Manx Care and Synaptik - and Lisa Wood - the clinical lead for Synaptik - to find out.

The Isle of Man needs to distance itself from the UK’s position on the ongoing conflict in Gaza. That’s the view of protestors who today (19 March) gathered outside the Tynwald building in Douglas to urge the Island’s parliament to support calls for an immediate ceasefire. They say despite months of lobbying MHKs, and the chief minister directly, there has still been no public statement regarding the Manx position. Tessa Hawley and Phil Gawne have this report:

A 'guerilla gardening' campaign that took place over the weekend had the desired effect, according to the Rushen MHK who spearheaded it. Michelle Haywood planted a number of daffodils in the potholes on Port St Mary High Street on Saturday. She says she wanted to draw wider attention to the road, which has been collapsing for 'the best part of a decade'. The subsection along the key route has 'structurally failed' and Dr Haywood says there are concerns about a pipeline running underneath it. Siobhán Fletcher went to the site to catch up with her.

A redacted version of the report which clears the health minister of a bullying allegation has been published. Chief Minister Alfred Cannan initially said the findings would be 'unintelligible' if released, but today it was made public. The investigation came after the Health Services Consultative Committee, a panel that scrutinises the Island's health services, claimed Lawrie Hooper had subjected its members to 'an hour-long rant' during a meeting. The results of a consultation into whether the bishop should retain the right to vote in Tynwald show an almost even split in opinion, with a slight majority in favour of removing it. A total of 2,934 people responded with their thoughts on Lawrie Hooper MHK's proposal, with 51 per cent in favour of the bishop retaining a seat in Tynwald but losing the vote and 49 per cent against. Seven households on the Island have had to register their surveillance equipment with the Information Commissioner since fresh advice was published by the authority last month. That's despite hundreds of queries to the body which recently highlighted who needs to pay a statutory fee and who is exempt. Interim Information Commissioner Stewart Haynes says there is a level of misunderstanding about the guidance, as the focus has been put on video doorbells. Siobhán Fletcher went to speak to him.

The founders of a local group that supports women with endometriosis wants to see local education of healthcare staff on the condition.  March marks Endometriosis Awareness Month and currently one in 10 women are diagnosed with the condition.  Karen Bell and Sharon Lunt told Manx Radio the Island is not heading in the right direction as it's taking longer to get a diagnosis.  They spoke to Chanelle Sukhoo.

Has your child had any doses of the measles vaccine? It's recommended the first dose of the MMR jab is given to one year olds, with a second one when the child is three and a half. But, according to Manx Care, almost a quarter of all under fives on the Island haven't had either. Currently there are no cases here, but after a recent spate of cases in the UK, there are concerns an outbreak could develop here quickly if a case were identified. Government's launched a new strategy to make the Isle of Man a more autism friendly island.  There's six goals ranging from increasing awareness to improved access and support. However Ballakermeen students working on the ARCA app - which aims to improve communication for non-verbal autistic people and reduce societal stigmas - believe more could be done. The idea for it stemmed from a Junior Achievement Isle of Man competition which Ralph Scott, Reuben Carridge and Natercia Munhemba are participating in as 'Team Evesta'. This weekend, you'll have the chance to contribute to a time capsule at St German's Cathedral in Peel. The building is currently being renovated, and before the top layer of the new floor is added, the doors of the cathedral will be open tomorrow (Saturday 2 March) for anyone to go along and leave their signature on the underlayer of the floor. Manx Care's hoping to improve its support for victims of domestic abuse. One of its nurses is training to become the Island's first Independent Domestic Violence Advisor, or IDVA (pron: ID-VA). Is it unreasonable for charities to set fundraising targets for people participating in their events? That's the question being asked by the Children's Centre after changing the requirements for people taking part in its Race the Sun challenge this year. For the first time, it's asking competing teams to raise a minimum of £650 between each of its ten members, but says it's received backlash online for making the move. A parent has formed a group to support other parents whose children have dyslexia and other literacy difficulties.  In 2019 one of Julia Bell's children was diagnosed with dyslexia which lead to her petitioning the following year for improved provision for pupils at Island schools. While it was picked up by the education department - she says she hasn't received any update in writing about what progress is being made.

There have been a number of calls for the chief minister to resign, with some MHKs even discussing the prospect of a 'vote of no confidence' in his leadership. The treasury minister has unveiled his plans for the next financial year. Dr Alex Allinson delivered his speech in Tynwald yesterday. Eighteen members of the House of Keys voted for the Budget with six voting against.  All eight members of the Legislative Council voted in favour of it. More needs to be done to educate people on the Isle of Man about the importance of having healthy relationships. That’s the view of the Department of Home Affairs a year after new legislation – designed to protect against domestic abuse – was brought into force. On 4 January 2023 the Domestic Abuse Act 2020 was introduced after many years in the making.
