Seven households on the Island have had to register their surveillance equipment with the Information Commissioner since fresh advice was published by the authority last month.
That's despite hundreds of queries to the body which recently highlighted who needs to pay a statutory fee and who is exempt.
Interim Information Commissioner Stewart Haynes says there is a level of misunderstanding about the guidance, as the focus has been put on video doorbells.
