It might be a beautiful sunny day on the tiny Isle with only light winds and rippling waves, but we know only too well how that weather – and those conditions - can change within moments. And it’s at times like this that our wonderful lifeboat volunteers are on guard, ready to drop everything at all hours of the day or night and leap to our aid on the high seas should we need it. With the Island being the birthplace of the RNLI, it’s apt that an exhibition marking the 200th anniversary of the organisation has opened at the House of Manannan - and it includes a gold medal awarded to Manx resident Sir William Hillary who founded the charity.MNH's Curator of Archaeology Alison Fox told our Howard Caine that it's an honour to have the artefact on display as part of their 'All At Sea' exhibition.*The music around this piece is the Mine's a Shanty crew, singing their original composition 'the Lifeboat Song', recorded live in St Thomas's Church earlier this year. You can see them performing at a number of events this Summer, including the Summerland Memorial Concert on Saturday August 3rd at the Peel Centenary Centre and Groudle Clifftop Concerts on Aug 11th.
