This week’s guest has had a life experience that no-one should ever have to endure. In May of 2017, whilst at a concert with his daughter, Martin Hibbert found himself stood only meters away from a suicide bomber seconds before detonation. Caught directly in the blast of the explosion both Martin and his daughter were left fighting for their lives, and suffered life changing injuries as a result.
Martin’s story is one of extreme physical and emotional trauma but also great resilience, determination, and ultimately triumph.
Today on Talking in the Dark Evie speaks with Martin Hibbert: author, motivational speak, vice president of the Spinal-Cord Injuries Association and survivor of the Manchester Arena bomb attack.
In this powerful conversation Evie learns all about Martin’s experience on the night of the attack, his recovery and rehabilitation afterwards, and the relentless and inspiring work he now does raising awareness for others with spinal-cord injuries.
Martin’s incredible new book, “On Top Of The World: Surviving the Manchester Bombing to Scale Kilimanjaro in a Wheelchair ” is out now and available in all good bookshops, and online market places. “Gripping and Inspiring” - The Mail on Sunday *****, ‘This book is incredible’ – Dan Walker
