Late Lunch listen again: Cycling challenges and a certain little penguin

On Late Lunch this Thursday afternoon we met Dave Hogg and Matt Hills who, along with their colleague Nick Watterson, are taking part in an incredible fundraising event next month.

The trio will be representing Aon Isle of Man in the epic cycling challenge that is Bordeaux to Barcelona.  The ride, in aid of the Isle of Man’s Children’s Centre, starts in Bordeaux in mid-September and winds its way down to Barcelona  via some very hilly Pyrenean mountains.  So hilly in fact that it’s the  equivalent of pedalling up Everest almost TWICE whilst covering the distance from Glasgow down to Brighton!

They want to raise as much money as they can and if you would like to support them, their fundraising page is here.

The challenge is made even trickier because of Dave's Type 1 Diabetes.  Fortunately Manx cycling star Sam Brand from Team Novo Nordisk popped in to offer his expert guidance.

We also made sure the boys were well prepared for their nine-day room sharing by testing their knowledge of each other.  Think 'Mr and Mrs' with a twist...

Also on the show today we found out more about the mascot of our Charity of the Week, The Manx Workshop for the Disabled.  Hawking the penguin has been helping out this week, and is doing a great job.  He also got a photo as you can see with Sam Brand!  To find out more about the charity, visit their website.

You can listen back to the show for the next week here, and we will back tomorrow just after 2pm.  Sam Brand blog edit
