Late Lunch listen again: Mike Kewley

Howard and Christy were joined once again by Mike Kewley from My Free Mind, for another spot of mid-week mindfulness.

He continued the theme of children and mindfulness, looking ahead in particular to schools starting back next week and the fact that some children (and parents!) may be feeling anxious about it.

In today's podcast, he took Howard through an exploration of 'Balloon Breathing' - something you can try along with your children to encourage and help them to calm down at times they may be struggling. You can find, download and subscribe to the podcast here

Also today, Howard spoke to Psycholinguist and Associate Professor at Reading University Dr Sylvia Jaworska, who told him how the wording on menus can be very influential on what we choose to eat. Would you know what a 'quenelle' or 'ballotine' is? And how much do you think the description of food on a menu affects what you decide to eat - and even your perception of the food itself?

Our Soul Starter was the fabulous Reet Petite by Jackie Wilson, and our Jukebox celebrated the birthday of Florence Welch, aka Florence and the Machine, who is 33 today. Her retro hit 'Dog Days Are Over' (now 11 years old!) won out over latest single 'Hunger'

If you missed today's programme, you can listen again at this link for the next 7 days.

Balloon breathing

Mike Kewley talks to Howard and Christy about 'balloon breathing' and explains how useful it can be for both adults and children alike - especially at times like this, when young ones are about to go back to school and they (and their parents!) might be feeling anxious about it.
