Late Lunch listen again: Mike Kewley

On the programme today, Christy was joined by Mike Kewley for another spot of Mid Week Mindfulness. He talked about a fascinating Japanese therapy called 'Naikan'. The practice, which translates as 'Looking inside', encourages us to ask 3 simple questions every day to put things into perspective and approach life from a point of gratitude. Watch the video below to hear Mike explain further.

And in today's recorded practice for the podcast, Mike took us through a wonderful session Shifting our focus to breath and stepping back to rest in 'the Witness' or Observer, noticing everything around us.

You can download, listen and subscribe to this week's Mindfulness Practice on our Podcast Page here.

Mike has a workshop coming up later this month, 'How To Be Happy', in which he'll also be looking further into the Naikan method; it is in Onchan on Saturday 24th August, follow his Facebook page for details. He also has a day retreat in September, which you can find out more about here

Also on the programme today, we heard about the numerous events that our Charity of the Week 'Little Piece of Hope' has coming up, which include Ice Breaker sessions for new students attending CRHS in September (the sessions are on 20th and 21st Aug at Castletown Civic Centre) and fundraising opportunities for the charity at Castletown Market on 24th Aug (they'll be there with their candy floss machine!) and Port St Mary Golf Pavillion on Aug 26th as part of the Red Box Appeal Fun Day. Find out more about everything they do by calling 202074 or emailing littlepieceofhope@manx.net

We got some help from Paddington the Bear and his cold hard stare - scientifically proven to stop seagulls from stealing our chips!

We also celebrated recent Manx-made music successes, with Mera Royle Trio in the running for the Loic Raison Trophy at the Lorient Interceltique Festival (bonne chance Mera et al!) and Penelope Isles who featured on BBC Radio 1 last night playing a live session recorded in the legendary Maida Vale studios

Our Jukebox was a battle of the duets, between Elton and Kiki Dee's 'Don't Go Breaking My Heart' and James Arthur and Anne-Marie's 'Rewrite the Stars' from The Greatest Showman movie (retro won again!)

and our Soul Starter was another duet, Womack and Womack's Teardrops from 1988.

You can listen back to the full programme at this link for the next 7 days.
