Regulations on the use of drones on the Isle of Man are about to get tighter.

From 1 January, legislation comes into effect to enforce a five-kilometre exclusion zone around the Isle of Man airport at Ronaldsway, amongst other changes.

The move came as Gatwick’s runway opened to limited flights on Friday morning (21 December) after a rogue drone caused chaos on Thursday, closing the United Kingdom's second busiest airport all day. Police still haven't traced who was responsible.

On the Island there are exclusion zones at certain times of the year, including during motorsport events - and there was in fact an incident at this year's TT races.

Deputy Director of Civil Aviation Colin Gill says as a general rule, there are a few simple guidelines to stick to, for drone users.

For more information, go to gov.im/caa and look for 'drones'.
