Vagabonds slow start continues

Ramsey make it two from two

On the back of a home defeat by Winnington Park last week, Vagabonds travelled away to Dukinfield hoping for something better.

They were not in luck as they were beaten 58-9 by their Manchester hosts in South Lancashire/Cheshire Division Two, whose Blocksages ground is a notoriously difficult place to pick up points.

Vagas now have a week off to tend to their wounds and perhaps build for a better result at home to Eagle on September 24.

By contrast Ramsey’s early form continued with a 20-12 defeat of Mossley Hill in South Lancashire/Cheshire Division Three.

They were made to work for it though and two tries in the final minutes sealed the win.

Hill took the lead with a Ken Butchart try.

Ramsey countered with an Andy Cleator penalty and the game was in the balance at half-time with Hill leading 5-3.

Midway through the second half, Dan Bonwick’s try and Cleator’s conversion put Ramsey 10-5 in front before Dave Salberg’s try and conversion at the other end snatched it back.

Ramsey kept at it, however, and tries from Ethan Benjamin and Bonwick sealed the game in the final minutes.
