Triathlon: Athletes sought for next Island Games team

Will Draper (Right) wins bronze in the men's individual triathlon at the 2023 Island Games

Aspiring competitors invited to meeting in Douglas this evening (23 Oct)

The search is underway to find out who could represent the Isle of Man in the grueling triathlon events at next year's Island Games.

Manx Tri Club will hold a meeting this evening (23 October) at 5.45pm on the upper level of 1886 Bar & Bistro on Regent Street in Douglas for those who may be interested in applying to take part.

The organisation says information will be provided during the meeting including selection criteria and details around logistics such as costs, travel and accommodation.

Anyone considering applying for a place in the triathlon team who can't attend tonight's session is invited to contact Manx Tri Club via message on its social media channels.

The next games are due to take place in Orkney next year from 12-18 July.

At the previous Island Games in Guernsey in 2023, the Isle of Man enjoyed medal success in both the standards triathlon events and the newly-introduced triathlon mixed relay.

In the standard triathlon, Will Draper claimed individual bronze in the men's event whilst he; John Barrett; Chris Hewson; Kristan King; Juan Kinley; Corrin Leeming; Matthew Looker and Charlie Swales claimed men's team bronze.

The Isle of Man had two female athletes in the women's standard triathlon - Alison King and Caitlin Gelder - who finished 20th and 27th respectively.

In the relay, the trio of Draper, Leeming and Kiera Prentice won team bronze.
