Tennis: IoM County Championship finals beckon this weekend

Senior and Junior events being held this week at Albany and Douglas

The conclusion to one of the Isle of Man's major tennis tournaments is scheduled to take place this weekend.

The 2024 Isle of Man County Championships have been held over the last six days with the senior and junior tournaments at Albany Lawn Tennis Club and Douglas Lawn Tennis Club respectively.

Isle of Man Lawn Tennis Association Secretary Paul Jarvis says officials - like with the recent Manx Grand Prix - have found it tough to organise around the poor weather conditions.

However he's praised all the players involved for being willing to work around the circumstances:

The first of the senior competition finals is due to take place at Albany this evening (30 August) in the mixed doubles as Sean Drewry & Anna Kirk are set to face Orry Farnworth & Charlotte Clarke at 6.30pm.

The finals of the singles competitions are penned in at Albany from 12pm tomorrow with both seeing the top two seeds in both the men's and women's sections facing off.

Drewry and Farnworth will meet in the men's final two whilst Clarke will take on Sarah Long in the women's final.

Elsewhere on Saturday the showdown for men's doubles glory will see Drewry & Farnworth team up to face Kevin Drewry and Jonathan Gower-Jackson; in the women's doubles final the duo of Clarke and Long face Kirk and Aalish Kelly.

Those doubles contests will get underway from 3pm tomorrow.
