Tennis: Bocking and Watterson battle to win Arnold Osborn Cup

Summer season comes to a conclusion at Castletown

A battling display from Dave Bocking and Neil Watterson saw the pair claim the Arnold Osborn Cup during the conclusion to the summer season at Castletown Lawn Tennis Club.

The duo scooped the silverware after taking victory in the senior end-of-season doubles tournament whilst Jimmy Cope and Jasper Hill won the junior doubles crown.

The accolades - along with those decided at the recent Closed Club Championships and a number of other honours - will be presented at the club's upcoming prize presentation and dinner.

For the senior competition, pairings were split into two groups with Bocking and Watterson topping group one with Dave's son, Max and Peter De Carte winning group two.

The two combinations then met in the final and whilst Max Bocking and De Carte put up a strong fight it was Dave Bocking and Watterson who had a little more left in the tank eventually win the contest 3-2 to take the trophy.

Elsewhere, the junior section also saw two tightly-contested groups with Cope and Hill taking top spot in group one and Neil Ronan and Emma Perera top of the pile in group two.

The two duos then met in the junior final with Cope and Hill able to find an extra gear to win by a 7-4 scoreline.

Following the end of the summer campaign the club is expected to take part in the annual Todmorden Shield event against Ramsey and Albany in a few weeks time with Castletown the defending champions from 2023.
