Former Island resident is men's singles number one seed at event
Tennis star Billy Harris is through to the quarter-finals of his latest ATP Challenger Tour event out in India.
The former Island player defeated Japanese qualifier Hiroki Moriya in straight sets (7-5, 6-3) in the Pune Challenger Round-of-16 stage this morning (20 February).
Harris - who's the number one seed in the men's singles tournament - will now face sixth seed Brandon Holt of the USA tomorrow (22 February).
That match will get underway no earlier than 12.30pm local time.
Previously Harris had opened his campaign at the event with an opening phase victory in straight sets over wildcard entry, Manas Dhamne of India (6-4, 6-4).
Last weekend in the same country Harris went all the way to the men's singles final in the Delhi Open, beaten only in the last two by Frenchman Kyrian Jacquet (6-4, 6-4) last Sunday (16 February).
In the early throws of 2025, Harris recently moved himself up six places in the ATP men's standings to 110th, just nine places off his career high of 101st back on 9 September last year.
Elsewhere this month the 30-year-old reached the last four of the Chennai Open and was part of the Great Britain team that suffered defeat to Japan in the qualifier for the Davis Cup.
