Standard of ARA riders 'very good', says clerk of course

Darryl Hill took up officiating from a young age on Island

The current Andreas Racing Association Clerk of the Course says he's impressed with the standard of riders involved with the club right now.

Darryl Hill believes those who haven't attended race meetings in the north of the Island would be pleasantly surprised at the 'calibre' of competitors which sees TT and MGP racers line up alongside newcomers and upcoming, younger prospects.

Mr Hill recently appeared on Manx Radio's 'Journey to a Dream' podcast describing his race officiating journey from a young age.

He explains it could be challenging early on as someone younger in the post but that role along with marshaling can be 'very rewarding', even for those with no racing experience:

Having first begun marshaling at 16 he became a Deputy Sector Marshal (DSM) on the Snaefell Mountain Course at 18, which is understood to make him one of the youngest TT/MGP DSM's in history.

His skillset has also been used further afield as well - along with his duties at Jurby Airfield he has also worked as clerk of the course for meetings run by off-Island clubs including the Wirral 100.

The 2025 ARA is season is scheduled to get underway next month - with the first ACU test day on Sunday, 9 March and first race meeting on Sunday, 30 March.
