Special Olympics IoM claim gold at World Winter Games

Two medals for Manx team in snowshoeing competition this morning (13 Mar)

Special Olympics Isle of Man has claimed two medals - including gold - at the 2025 World Winter Games in Turin today (13 March).

As part of a four-strong Manx team competing in the snowshoeing event, Dylan Butler took victory in the M02 final to win gold in the men's 200m race.

In the same final was his teammate Robert Molesworth who finished sixth.

Elsewhere, there was bronze for female athlete Kanyeba Lubiljani who crossed the line third in the F07 final in the women's 200m competition.

Also involved in the 200m finals was Rebecca Maller who only narrowly missed out on a medal in the FO8 final as she came fourth.

For Butler it was an impressive win as the 17-year-old's time of 38.56 seconds saw him beat his nearest challenger - Justas Stumburevicius of Lithuania - by nearly two seconds.

Molesworth recorded a time of 44.16 seconds, just over a second off Poland's Kacper Koszkul in fifth (43.09).

Elsewhere, Lubiljani claimed bronze in her final in a time of one minute, 0.28 seconds - just over half a second quicker than Canadian Susan Miko (one minute, 0.85 seconds).

Only around half a second separated Maller from the medals in her final - her time in fourth came in at one minute, 10.16 seconds not far behind third-placed Lisa-Marie Mlinar of Austria (one minute, 9.67 seconds)

All four competitors will be back in action tomorrow (14 March) for the 100m races.

They're expected to take place between 7.30am and 10.15am UK time.
