Special Olympics IoM claim first medals of latest Gibraltar games

Athletics team impresses on day one of annual event

Special Olympics Isle of Man claimed their first medals during day one of competition at this year's annual Gibraltar National Games.

Following the opening ceremony at Lathbury Sports Complex it was the Manx athletics competitors who were the first to compete.

Wesley Langton claimed gold in his 400m race and also claimed silver in the 200m event, just missing out on victory.

Meanwhile the 4x100m relay team of Duncan Watterson, Dylan Butler, Ethan Butler and Tom Read took the silver medal and second spot in that event.

Elsewhere, Dylan Butler would secure a further silver in the 100m as well as bronze in the 200m.

Ethan Butler was also among more medals taking 200m silver and 100m bronze.

Day two of competition will see the five-a-side football and bocce tournaments taking place throughout today at the SOG Sports Complex.
