Rugby: Ramsey to head to Prenton in Cheshire Vase

Nomads and Vagas to meet in friendly in repeat of Manx Plate final

Ramsey RUFC face their first competitive test of the new rugby campaign when they travel to face Prenton in the Cheshire Vase this weekend.

The Manx side will head to the Wirral at 2.15pm tomorrow (31 August) following a strong end to the previous season in which the club claimed it's first Cheshire silverware, beating fellow Islanders Western Vikings 28-0 to lift the Cheshire Plate in March this year.

What's more the northerners last met their opposition this weekend almost exactly a year ago in the same competition, managing a commanding 51-12 victory over the Birkenhead-based outfit in August 2023.

Elsewhere, two local squads will face off on Island on Saturday in preparation for their respective campaigns.

Southern Nomads will take on Vagabonds at Ballafletcher at 2pm tomorrow in a repeat of last season's Manx Plate in April this year in which 'Vagas' took a 69-10 win over the then-defending champions in the tournament.
