Rugby: Manx sides suffer on the road

Manx Radio rounds up the weekend's results

Douglas miss out at Altrincham

Douglas’ quest for an away win continue after they lost 33-24 away at Altrincham Kersal in the Regional 2 North West. However, they retain their eighth place position in the table.

Josh Duncan and Harry Hewson both crossed for the Manx side, who were also awarded a penalty try too.

Scrum half Nathan Robson kicked a penalty and two conversions, but on the day it was not enough to beat an Altrincham Team which has some big scalps on its belt this season.

Douglas will travel to ninth places side Winnington Park next Saturday which will present another chance to pick up that elusive away win.

Burnley beat Vagabonds

Burnley took the honours 61-7 against Vagabonds in the Counties 3 ADM Lancs/Cheshire.

The English team had won 54-10 at Ballafletcher in the reverse fixture, so the result was consistent but nonetheless disappointing.

Regan Williams scored the Vagas consolation try with Cam Findlay converting.

Vagabonds will face Fleetwood at Ballafletcher next Saturday.

Vagabonds Ladies just miss out at Eccles

Eccles claimed the points in a tight game as they 15-12 in the Womens NC2 North (South).

Maylyn Campbell bagged two tries for Vagas for the second successive game and Sammie Macdonald converted one.

Vagas now have two weeks off to prepare for the visit of Winnington Park to Ballafletcher on 8 February.

Douglas Casuals win at Ramsey

Douglas Casuals survived a Ramsey second half fightback to win 29-22 at Mooragh Park in a belting friendly fixture.

The Casuals bossed the first half with five unanswered tries.

Aaron Mason started the ball rolling after three minutes, Adam Boyd doubled the lead and further tries from Craig Martin and Liam Kirkpatrick took the lead to over twenty.

Ollie Howarth added a conversion amongst all that and a second try for Boyd on the half hour, converted by Howarth, which saw the lead increase to 29-0 at half time.

After twenty scoreless minutes in the second half Jake Richmond got the first of his two to start the Ramsey comeback.

Conor Goodall added a second and with five minutes to play, Richmond bagged his second.

As the clock ticked down Josh Corteen dived in for Ramsey’s fourth and Scott Kneale’s conversion put Ramsey within a score but with no time remaining.
