Rugby: Douglas win at Bowdon

But Vagabonds ladies suffer defeat at home to Broughton Park

Douglas pulled of a great away win at Bowdon and picked up a try bonus point too. Centre Harry Hewson ran in two tries for his side with Blake Snell and Craig Martin also crossing to make sure of the bonus. Luke Hyland continued his excellent kicking form with two conversions and a penalty. The win takes Douglas eight points clear of the bottom two and almost in touching distance of Broughton Park and Altrincham Kersal with two games in hand. Douglas travel to bottom side Carlisle next Saturday and will hope to pick up more points on the road.

Vagabonds Ladies beaten at home

Broughton Park secured their second place in the Womens NC1 North West standings with a 39-5 win at a windy Ballafletcher. Sam Bundock crossed early for the visitors and the impressive Megan Ryder went in for their second which she converted herself for a 12-0 lead. Jules Harrison pulled one back for Vagas but a penalty try on the half hour restored the Broughton lead and when Tiffany Ho crossed on the stroke of half time the lead was 24-5. After almost thirty scoreless second half minutes Juliette Carter ran in two for Broughton to extend their lead and Annie Jenkinson’s late try iced the cake.

Nomads win in Ravenscroft Manx Cup

PDMS Southern Nomads beat Sure Vagabonds 41-12 to secure their first win in the Manx Cup. George Callister and Max Fairbairn both ran in two for the men in green and there were supporting scores from Gerard Landels and Tony Quinn with Mark Young converting four and adding a penalty.

In the other Manx Cup game Ramsey beat Douglas Celts 53-20 at Port-e-Chee. Dan Richmond, Dan Bonwick and Brandon Atchison all went over twice for Ramsey, with Connor Goodall, Jake Richmond and Ross Quayle (on first team debut) making up the rest. Dan Richmond kicked four conversions. Nick Cain, Connor Casey and Ian Alfred picked up tries for Douglas.
