Vagabonds Ladies beaten in Ballafletcher thriller
Report by Dave Christian:
Douglas didn’t get the start they wanted in their first outing of 2025 in Regional 2 North West, losing 36-10 away at Vale of Lune.
Douglas trailed 19-5 at half time with a Cal Dentith try keeping them in the hunt.
A second half comeback never quite materialised and a second try courtesy of Charlie Henthorn was all they could add.
They will face league leaders Sandbach at Port-e-Chee next Saturday (11 January).
Vagas Ladies lose out in Ballafletcher epic
A try with two minutes to go saw Leigh snatch a thrilling 24-22 victory at Ballafletcher.
Freya Crowe went over early and Sammie Macdonald’s conversion gave Vagas a 7-0 lead.
Rhianne Boag and Naoimh Gill-Ward then struck two quick tries for Leigh and both were converted by Abi Kay for a 14-7 lead.
Maylyn Campbell struck twice for Vagas in the run up to half time and when the teams turned around Vagas were 17-14 ahead.
Just after the break Bliss Murtagh added Vagas’ fourth try to make the lead eight points.
Vagas then had to switch to full time defensive mode as Leigh piled on the pressure, the defence was solid but sadly leaked twice allowing Rhianne Boag to complete her hat-trick and claim the match points for Leigh.
