Rally: Chris Kelly Memorial Stages cancelled amid sport restructure

Decision follows 'complete review' of future for rallying on Island

The Chris Kelly Memorial Stages rally event later this year has been cancelled amid a 'significant restructure' of the sport on the Isle of Man.

Manx Auto Sport after a 'troubled period' for rallying locally, it's working with all relevant parties to create a 'co-ordinated and detailed' schedule of events for at least the next three years.

After what the organisation called a successful Manx Rally in May - which attracted 130 competitors - the timescales involved in that competition mean the Chris Kelly Memorial Stages on 29-30 September can no longer take place.

However, there are hopes to run two major events in each of the following years.

Furthermore, a statement from Manx Auto Sport adds: "With the increasing demands and challenges faced by rally organisers, particularly those running major closed road rallies, a complete review of the organisation and functioning of Manx Auto Sport has been undertaken.

"The aim of the restructure is to ensure the long term future of rallying on the Island, which has a proud 60 year history."
