NSC bowls hall reopens

The new bowls hall at the NSC

Squash courts to follow next week

Today marks another step on the road to recovery for the National Sports Centre, with another one to come next week.

The bowls hall has reopened, while next Monday it will be the turn of the squash courts.

Both were some of the areas which came off worst when the NSC and its surroundings were flooded in December last year.

In addition to repairing the facilities, the opportunity has been taken to improve them also.

The playing surface in the bowls hall has been raised, to make it easier for disabled customers to get in.

Access gates for wheelchair users have also been installed.

The lighting has also been improved, but there is more work to be done on heating and ventilation, necessitating a further closure in a few weeks' time, which staff say will be a short one.

As for the squash courts, all six of them are now glass-backed, improving the view for spectators.

There are also new walls, sprung floors and lighting, heating and ventilation systems.
