Island side battles against clinical opponents in Cardiff

The Isle of Man received another big lesson at this week's World Youth Cup qualifiers in Cardiff with a 15-93 defeat against Scotland Under-21's last night.

With scorelines not high on the priority list of the Manx side, the focus was on looking to keep tabs where possible against a Scottish side which flew out the traps to lead 17-5 at the end of the first quarter.

Their ruthless streak at the attacking end really came into it's own in quarter two as Scotland more than doubled their tally in those 15 minutes as the Isle of Man could only muster one point in response to see Scotland lead 6-37 at the half-time break.

After the midway break, the Isle of Man did manage to get four further points on the board to reach double figures but it did little to stop their clinical opponents at the other end adding another 26 points.

Having set the trend with their performance from the start, Scotland then finished just as strong in the final quarter - scoring 30 more times compared to the Isle of Man's five before the final whistle.

The Isle of Man Under-21's have two more games remaining at the event - the first of those takes place today (28 September) against Republic of Ireland at 4pm.

They will then conclude their campaign at the House of Sport in the Welsh capital at 10am tomorrow against Northern Ireland.
