Narrow defeat for FC Isle of Man at Charnock Richard

McDonnell nets in loss to unbeaten hosts

A second-half Thomas Walker strike saw FC Isle of Man slip to a narrow 2-1 defeat at undefeated Charnock Richard in the NWCFL Premier Division this afternoon (24 August).

The Ravens found themselves behind inside two minutes after Luke Power seized upon a loose Jack McVey before rounding FC Isle of Man goalkeeper Adam Killey and slotting into an empty net.

Heading towards half-time, the Manx side restored parity when Ronan McDonnell's looping header found its mark from a Ste Whitley free-kick in the 44th minute.

But Charnock Richard would grab a second and decisive goal on 62 minutes from a set-piece of their own as Walker nodded home from an Ashley Young free-kick.

The loss for Paul Jones' side sees them drop to 13th in the standings with seven points from their opening seven matches.

Charnock Richard meanwhile have extended their run without tasting defeat in the early stages of the league campaign, winning four of their five fixtures so far and drawing the other lifting them to third in the table on 13 points.

FC Isle of Man's next match will be away at Stockport Town on Monday, 26 August kicking-off at 1pm.
