Isle of Man resident appointed IIGA General Secretary

His predecessor will move onto organisation's executive committee

An Isle of Man resident has been appointed to take up a key role within the International Island Games Association (IIGA).

The organisation has confirmed Gary Weightman will take up the post of General Secretary from 1 March this year.

He will succeed fellow Manx resident Andy Varnom who will remain with the IIGA in another role.

Announcing the news, the association says Mr Weightman has 'a lot of experience working in various positions with amateur sport on the Island', adding they're 'delighted' to bring him on board.

Meanwhile, Mr Varnom is being co-opted onto the IIGA's Executive Committee - he and Mr Weightman will both work out of the organisation's Isle of Man base at the National Sports Centre in Douglas.

Preparations are currently well underway within the organisation for the latest Island Games which are taking place in Orkney this summer from 12-18 July.
