Hockey title race goes to the wire

The battle to determine the final destination of the inaugural Mixed Hockey Premier League is set to go to the wire.

That’s after two of the top three won well on Saturday.

Reigning champions Bacchas A overcame a tricky test against Ramsey A with a 4-1 success.

Goals from Andy Whiting (two), Dave Kneale and James Wright secured the points for Bacchas with Ollie Webster replying for Ramsey.

And it was a similar story for Valkyrs A as they overcame Bacchas B to complete their league programme.

Goals from Russell Miller (two), Poppy Walker, Andrea Kneen and Gareth Morris sealed a 5-2 victory with Claire-Louise Lace and Glen Bloxham-Mundy scoring for Bacchas B in the second half.

The results mean disappointment for third placed Falcons who cannot win the championship.

They can still have a say in who does and claim the runners-up spot.

If Falcons avoid defeat against Bacchas A in the final match of the season then Valkyrs A are champions.

Victory for Bacchas A will see them retain the title.
