Report by Ben Cunningham:

It’s finals weekend in the Cup, Plate and Bowl in both the men’s and ladies competitions at the National Sports Centre in Douglas.

The first final of the weekend is tonight with the Ladies Cup which is a replay of the final last year between Castletwon A the defending champions and Bacchas A.

Castletown ladies A couldn’t have asked for a better season in the league this year finishing it undefeated however they drew just one game and that was when the met Bacchas A in the league; for Bacchas A the league has been a mixed bag of results however towards the end of the season they did have a good run of form.

The first final to take place on Saturday is the Men's Bowl between Valkyrs C and Vikings C - In the league things between theses two sides were really close with Valkyrs C just taking the Men's Division Two title by just one point over Vikings C.

When these two sides met in the league they were all close games battled out, this one I think could go all the way to penalty flicks if the two sides can’t be split at full time.

Next up is the Ladies Bowl between the top two sides in Ladies Division Two, Bacchas C play Valkyrs C - Bacchas will definitely want to get the victory on the day and do the double winning the league and the Bowl, however Valkyrs C in the league were very good going forward and scoring goes and Bacchas were very good defensively but which one will come out on top on the day?

It could make another close battle and possibly another game that could go all the way to penalty flicks.

The Men's Cup follows and this sees Bacchas A meet Valkyrs A - for the westerners Valkyrs A the league for them was a mixture of results however Bacchas A will be delighted with taking the league title but only just on goal difference as they didn’t finish the season undefeated, losing on the last weekend of league action to Vikings A, could that loss effect them in this final?

One thing Valkyrs know they will have to top is Bacchas going forward as they have been scoring plenty of goals in al their games this season.

The action continues into the afternoon with the Ladies Plate between Valkyrs B and Bacchas B - looking at how the league went for both these two sides Valkyrs finished in second spot just ahead of Bacchas in third.

In the league both these sides have had mixed results but the cup runs both have had will definitely give both sides the boost, however Valkyrs B are the current holder of this plate and will definitely want to keep their hands on it for another year in the west of the island.

The final game of finals weekend is the Men's Plate which sees Bacchas B play Harlequins B - Bacchas B just missed out on getting the title after losing on the final day of the league season to Vikings B who took he title with that win as both those two sides came into that game level on points with Bacchas just ahead on goal difference.

As for Harlequins they were putting a strong effort into challenging the teams in Men's Division One but this cup run they have had has shown for should a young team they can really perform when it matters as they did in the semi-finals knocking out the league champions in division one Vikings B.

If any of these games at full time are level they will go straight into penalty flicks to declare the winner.

It’s also great to hear a number of umpires this season have completed their Level One assessments and have been chosen to umpire these big finals taking place this weekend.

Big congratulations to Kim Carney, Sam Franklin, Emily Middleton, Alex Andrews, Molly Howland, Ash Lachenicht and Elliot Reid who will be umpiring over finals weekend.

If you are looking for something to do on your Friday evening or Saturday please get on down to the NSC and show your support and watch what will be a great display of Manx hockey action.
