Fundraiser launched to help Island Games athletics squad

Isle of Man hoping to assist competitors heading to Orkney this summer

A fundraising campaign has been launched looking to help the Isle of Man athletics team get to this year's Island Games.

Efforts are underway to generate £10,000 to help cover the costs of competitors reaching Orkney to compete between 12-18 July.

Team Manager Petra Achison also took charge of the squad which competed at the previous games in Guernsey in 2023.

She explains that - for plenty of Manx athletes - being involved in the Island Games is something they 'dream of':

The JustGiving campaign set up by Isle of Man Athletics describes the perceived challenge competitors face in finding the funds to participate.

It states: "One of the main challenges facing any team travelling to the games is the cost and despite fund-raising efforts, sponsorship and generous support from government the cost to each athlete remains very testing.

"If you feel able to help support our athletes financially, and to help them achieve the success that we believe the team will deliver, we would be tremendously grateful.

"The Isle of Man is the most successful island in athletics in the history of the Island Games and with your support we aim to keep it that way."
