Ballasalla club wins both divisions of new-look tournament

Malew AFC Ladies have completed a cup double in this year's new-look Canada Life Women's Floodlit Cup competition.

The AC Malew team secured the 2025 A Division title with a 2-0 victory over Peel on Sunday (12 January) courtesy of goals from Ashleigh Lachenicht and Rosabel Cardy.

This latest success for the Ballasalla-based club comes after its other team in the competition - Malew Ladies - won the B Division crown on Sunday, 5 January with a commanding 7-0 dismantling of Onchan Blues.

On social media the club is praising the achievements of both squads along with the 'impeccable work' of Malew AFC Ladies manager Tara Mitchell.

Also congratulating both sides is the Isle of Man Football Association (IOMFA) which adds it's 'very excited' to see what the women's teams there can achieve going forward.

For the 2024/25 season, the Floodlit Cup has undergone a change in format with the main competition moving to a seven-a side format and teams split into two divisions.

Elsewhere, this coming weekend sees the resumption of the Canada Life Women's League on Sunday, 19 January.

Two fixtures are scheduled - Onchan vs Peel and Malew vs Corinthians - both due to kick-off that day at 2pm.
