Dunlop leads the way in first practice

Michael powers BMW around Billown

Michael Dunlop was the fastest man at Billown on the opening evening of practice for the Southern 100.

He lapped at 109.670 mph and was half-a-second quicker than Ivan Lintin with Jamie Coward third in the 1000cc class.

In the sidecars, Dave Molyneux and Dan Sayle were narrowly short of the lap record and a first lap over 100mph when they clocked 99.530 mph.

Tim Reeves and Patrick Farrance were second at 97.145 mph and the Birchalls third at 96.891 mph.

Dean Harrison was three seconds quicker in the 600cc class at 108.206 mph ahead of Ivan Lintin and Dan Kneen.

Ivan Lintin is top of the charts in the 650cc/250cc race at 101.571 mph with Rob Hodson second and James Cowton third.

Newcomer Darryl Tweed finished on top in the 125/400cc class at 93.421 mph just ahead of Dan Sayle on the Moto3 250 Honda.

There is more practice this evening with roads closing at 6.05pm and the first two races from 8pm - roads will reopen no later than 9.40pm.
