Douglas work hard to beat gritty Sefton

Trio of wins for Manx sides

Douglas beat Sefton by a comfortable 42-5 margin in South Lancashire/Cheshire Division One on Saturday, but had to work for it.

Three tries in the last five minutes gave the scoreboard a gloss which Sefton didn’t really deserve.

Early tries from Bryn Snellgrove and Shaun Wyllie, plus a Luke Hyland penalty, gave Douglas an early lead.

Alex Evans pulled one back for Sefton to leave the lead 13-5 at the interval.

Sam Randle struck for the bonus point try just after the break, but the lead remained 23-5 until late scores from Carl Murray, Snellgrove again and Adam Boyd saw Douglas close the game out in style.

Vagabonds claimed their first win of the campaign in Division Two with a comprehensive 58-10 defeat of Eagle at Ballafletcher.

The 10-try victory lifts Vagas away from the foot of the table and into ninth place in the early standings.

Next week they face a tough trip to eighth place Port Sunlight.

Ramsey dominated struggling Wallasey and picked up their first bonus point of the season in Division Three with a 42-5 win on the road.

Dale Radcliffe was the Ramsey points machine with two tries, two conversions and a penalty.

There were also tries from Dan Bonwick, Neil Long, John F Watling and Dave Keenan with Abuu Migoda also kicking a conversion.

The win takes Ramsey into third place in the table.
