Cavendish and Ingham scoop top gongs at 2024 IoM Sports Awards

'Manx Missile' also claims Lifetime Achievement honour after historic season

Sir Mark Cavendish and Yasmin Ingham have been crowned Isle of Man Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year at the 2024 Isle of Man Sports Awards this evening (27 February).

A total of 14 honours were dished out tonight at a ceremony at the Villa Marina in Douglas, with Cavendish also bagging the latest Lifetime Achievement Award.

The 'Manx Missile' made history last year, setting the new stage wins record at the Tour de France in July and retired from the sport in November with a career tally of 165 professional race victories.

Meanwhile, equestrian sensation Ingham finished 2024 fourth in the FEI Eventing world rankings and was a travelling reserve with the GB eventing squad which won team gold at the 2024 Olympic games in Paris.

Elsewhere, there was further success tonight in equestrian with Evie Roberts being named Disability Sportsperson of the Year.

Motorsport also managed double honours - reigning Sidecar TT champions Callum and Ryan Crowe were confirmed as Team of the Year whilst trials star Kaytlyn Adshead won Under-21 Sportswoman of the Year.

Following his grand slam debut last year, tennis player Billy Harris was announced as IoM Ambassador of the Year.

There was also a triple nod for athletics - Regan Corrin claimed the Under-21 Sportsman of the Year title; Christa Cain was announced as Veteran Sportsperson and Nikki Arthur & Orran Smith received the Special Achievement prize.
