Manxman Max Walker takes podium at Beaumont Trophy

Cycling Club Isle of Man's women's team secured a podium place at the weekend in the team's debut in national competition.

The Manx side fielded two young riders in Ruby Oakes and Sophie Smith during the Curlew Cup held in Northumberland on Sunday (17 September).

Come the finish, Smith crossed the line in third whilst Oakes also had a strong finish in 20th.

Smith's third-place finish came just seven days after she secured the women's title at the Isle of Man Criterium Championships in Jurby.

For Oakes it's another good finish to a year which has already seen her claim two bronze medals during the Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad & Tobago in August.

Meanwhile, on the same day there were a series of Manx competitors taking part in the Beaumont Trophy in the latest round of the British National Road Series.

They included Max Walker representing Trinity Racing; Tyler Hannay competing for Saint Piran and the Cycling Club Isle of Man men's squad of Corrin Leeming, Will Draper and Mark Horsthuis.

Walker took a podium finish by taking third spot whilst Hannay's Saint Piran team took the top two places as Finn Crockett won the Beaumont Trophy with Jack Rootkin-Gray finishing second.

Hannay himself finished in 15th place.

The Saint Piran squad as a whole won the National Road Series team competition.

Elsewhere, CC IoM's highest finish in the race came from Leeming who managed to take 29th place - Draper came home in 57th spot whilst Horsthuis didn't finish the contest.
