Manxman takes contest all the way against high-calibre opponent
Jamie Devine says he has plenty to be proud of after a narrow split-decision loss in his boxing bout at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
The Manxman faced high-calibre opposition in Olympian, Abdul Wahib Omar of Ghana in the Round-of-32 in the men's light-welterweight class at the NEC on Friday night (29 July) across three rounds.
Omar took the first round with a confident centre-ring display, however Devine responded brilliantly in the second to get back in the game, not giving his opponent time to think or relax.
Devine then pushed valiantly in the third and final round, hunting down Omar around the ring to put on the pressure.
But it was not to be come the final bell as Omar went on to edge the contest on a split-decision.
