Holders defeated in semis

Cronkbourne will play Crosby in the final of the Tinker Cup next month.

In Saturday's semis, Cronkbourne beat holders Peel and St John’s by nine wickets.

Batting first, the Saints were well placed at 53 for 1, but were then destroyed by off-spinner Matt Ansell.

In just eight overs he took 6 wickets for 11 as Peel lost 9 wickets for only 27 runs.

Chasing 81 for victory, Cronkbourne lost an early wicket but opener Eddie Beard made a confident 32 and skipper Max Stokoe hit 28 to guide the side through to the final.

In the other semi, Crosby had a comfortable win at Ramsey.

They bowled out the northerners for 81 and then reached their target for the loss of three wickets.

At the end Drew Buxton was 24 not out and Jack Rowlands 17 not out.

The Tinker Cup final is set for Saturday, August 13, at a venue to be agreed by the teams.
