Cricket: Peel & St John's make European debut

Manx side grab a victory on day one in Spain

Peel & St John's Cricket Club secured a victory as the team made its European Cricket League (ECN) debut yesterday (24 February).

The Manx side has taken part in its opening three Group A matches on managing a win and two defeats so far at Cartama Oval in Spain.

In their opening outing of the event, Peel & St John's were part of a nail-biting affair in which they tied on 114 runs with Darmstadt CC only for the German outfit to dramatically snatch victory on the 'golden ball.'

The Islanders would then bounce back to end to the day as they went on to claim their first ever ECN win in game two.

After opponents ACC Bucharest of Romania had set a target of 89-7 from the ten overs, Peel & St John's required just over eight overs (8.1) to overhaul that total and take victory by six wickets.

The Manx club are back in action today on day two already - this morning (25 February) saw them begin with a 55-run loss at the hands of French side Dreux.

Their second and final game of Tuesday will be against Serbian side Stari Grad - that match is due to get underway at 1.30pm local time.
