Colby earn point at Peel

Newly promoted Colby gained a superb result in the Canada Life Premier League on Saturday.

They drew 2-2 at FA Cup holders Peel.

The southerners produced a fine showing and led 2-0 at the break after goals from James Collett and Martin Moore.

Marc Kelly scored twice after the break to earn Steve Falconer’s side a point – his 100th and 101st senior goals for the club - but it was Colby who the happier side the full-time whistle.

The other promoted side, Douglas Athletic, had an afternoon to forget as they were hammered 10-0 at Laxey.

Michael Fernandez continued his fine form with four goals.

Darryl Haslett, Sean Gavin, Johnny Shields, Aidan Cummins, talented youngster Stan Manning, plus an own goal, helped ensure a rout.

Reigning champions St George’s have moved to the summit after an 8-0 success at Ramsey.

Doubles from Furo Davies, Johnny Lund and Sam Caine, plus one each from Jack McVeigh and the returning Ciaran McNulty, secured a comprehensive victory.

Rock bottom Ayre battled hard but went down 4-0 at St John’s, for whom Mike Stringer, Eric Kelly, Sam Ingham and Johnny Holland found the net.

Rushen were 4-1 winners over 10-man Union Mills.

Michael Williams (two), Jamie Johnston and Chris Shimmin were on target as Rushen made a rampant start.

They were 2-0 up inside the opening 10 minutes and added another to seal victory by the break.

Luke Booth scored for the Millers, for whom Darren Smethurst was dismissed.
