Mark Cavendish has called for Roberto Ferrari to be ejected from the Giro d'Italia after the Italian rider caused him to crash heavily in the final 100 metres of yesterday's stage.
The Manx Missile had won the bunch sprint at the end of Sunday's second stage, but had complained about erratic and dangerous riding from a portion of the peloton.
Yesterday he was nearing full speed and in contention for a second stage win in succession when Ferrari veered across his path and clipped Cavendish's front wheel.
He made the call for Ferrari's ejection via Twitter afterwards, a sentiment echoed on the social media site by Cav's Team Sky colleague Geraint Thomas.
The stage was won by Matt Goss, who took the sprinter's red jersey from Cav in the process.
