Manx Missile in the yellow jersey for the first time
Mark Cavendish has won the opening stage of the 2016 Tour de France, putting him in the yellow jersey at cycling's greatest race for the first time.
He triumphed on a stage which was geared up for a battle between the sprinters, covering a relatively flat 188km route from Mont-Saint-Michel to Utah Beach.
Today, he managed to hold off some of the greatest names in sprinting - Marcel Kittel, Peter Sagan and Andre Greipel, who were second, third and fourth respectively - to claim a jersey which has eluded him until now in his glittering career.
It's the Manx Missile's 27th stage victory at Le Tour, putting him just one win behind second-placed Bernard Hinault on the all-time list.
