Badminton: Island athletes claim medals in Hampshire and Suffolk

Double success for Jess Li whilst women's pairing takes silver

Isle of Man badminton competitors have managed to secure three more medals during their latest Badminton England campaigns in the last week.

Jessica Li claimed gold at the Suffolk Open Silver (8-9 March) in the women's doubles with teammate Katie Ellis - beating Chloe Dennis and Natasha Lado in three sets in the final showdown (11-21, 28-26, 21-19).

Li wasn't finished there as she and her brother Ben Li teamed up for the mixed doubles where they topped their group before getting to the semi-finals and claiming bronze.

There was also four Island players competing at the recent Hampshire Senior Bronze (8-9 March) in the form Annelise Mellor, Philippa Li, Matthew Nicholson and Kitty Thomas.

The highlight came in the women's pairs as Mellor and Li took silver after reaching the final before losing out in straight sets to Maria Mitchell and Kayleigh Williams (13-21, 18-21).

Mellor and Nicholson then partnered up for the mixed doubles with Thomas - representing Sussex - joining forces with Alex Tapp of Guernsey.

Elsewhere, Mellor and Nicholson finished second in mixed doubles Group A with a win and a defeat whilst Thomas and Tapp made it to the quarter-finals of that tournament before losing out to Tom Davies and Maria Mitchell (15-21, 25-27).
