Island player shines in doubles events in Glasgow

There's been double medal success for Isle of Man badminton competitor Kimberley Clague during this year's Scottish International Masters Championships.

Contesting two events, Clague claimed gold alongside Nikita Kolomnin in the Mixed Double's (MXD35) tournament and and won silver alongside England's Kelly Fairey in the Women's Doubles (WD35).

Separately, Clague was also part of the England team which went on to beat Scotland 33-10 in the annual Robert McCoig match.

Clague's campaign began strongly in the women's doubles at the Sir Craig Reedie Badminton Centre in Glasgow as she and Fairey took straight sets wins in their opening two Group B games.

They were pushed all the way though in their final group contest against Scotland's Kathryn McGregor and Rachael Rennie, with Clague and Fairey eventually emerging victorious 21-12, 14-21, 21-12.

Clague and Fairey were then bested in the final as Scottish pairing Jody Barral and Frances McClure swept through to win 21-13, 22-20 with Clague and Fairey having to settle for the silver medal.

In the mixed doubles, Clague and Kolomnin put in a strong set of performances winning three of their four matches in straight sets.

The only exception was in the final where they were pushed the full three-set distance by Scotland's Mark McKay and Shona McKay, with Clague and Kolomnin eventually coming out on top 21-10, 16-21, 21-10 to secure gold.
