Island endurance athlete takes on grueling challenge in Spain

Isle of Man endurance athlete Nikki Arthur has claimed an impressive top-20 finish during recent international competition in Europe.

Representing Great Britain, Nikki Arthur claimed 15th place in the women's race during the 70km SkyUltra event at the 2024 Skyrunning World Championships in Soria, Spain on 7 September.

Arthur went on to complete the grueling course - which included 4,350m of vertical climb - in a time of 10 hours, 22 minutes and six seconds.

The winning time in the women's contest was set by Italy's Giulia Marchesoni of eight hours, 38 minutes and ten seconds.

The United Kingdom would go on to finish 28th out of 39 in the country rankings table.

So far in 2024, Arthur has excelled in other endurance events including winning the women's class in the Spine Challenger North class at the brutal Spine Race competition in January.

Elsewhere she was also the fastest female Manx runner at this year's London Marathon in April in a time of two hours, 55 minutes and 31 seconds.
