Manx athlete nearly makes history over 40-mile distance
Isle of Man athlete Sarah Webster came within seconds of beating a long-established world record whilst competing in the UK at the weekend.
Involved in the 24-Hour Run at the 2024 Gloucester Track Races on Saturday (24 August), the Northern AC runner managed a time of four hours, 26 minutes and 55 seconds over 40 miles.
That's just 12 seconds slower than the women's world 40 mile track record of four hours, 26 minutes and 43 seconds set by British competitor Carolyn Hunter-Rowe in Barry, Wales in 1993.
Meanwhile, there were three other local athletes involved in the meeting with Colin Moore, Andrew Titley and Russel Walker - all of the Isle of Man Veteran Athlete's Club (IOMVAC) - contesting the Centurions 24 Hour Walk.
Titley was the highest finisher of the trio in ninth managing 381 laps in a time of 23 hours, 32 minutes and two seconds.
Walker's pace of completing 320 laps in the same amount of time saw him finish 12th.
Moore finished 15th with a time of 13 hours, 20 minutes and one second covering 192 laps.
