Athletics: Olympian among elite entries for IoM 20km championship

Top UK competitors on entry list for world-ranking event this weekend

A British Olympian and some of the UK's elite race walkers are among those expected to take part in the latest Isle of Man 20km Walking Championships later this week.

The 2024 event -organised by Manx Harriers - will be held on the Sir Mark Cavendish Raceway at the NSC this Sunday (8 September).

This year the meeting has world athletics ranking status, meaning ranking points are up for grabs during the 20km race for competitors ranging from club all the way up to elite level.

Among those signed on to take part is Callum Wilkinson who has represented Great Britain at the last two Olympic games in Tokyo and Paris in the 20km event.

British women's number one Abigail Jennings is also due to form part of the lineup.

Elsewhere, Cameron Corbishley and Guy Thomas - the UK men's numbers two and three respectively - also bolster the quality of the entries.

Meanwhile, expected to be among the local entries are World Masters gold medalist Marie Jackson and Catherine Perry in the women's event along with Neil Wade in the men's race.

Along with the feature 20km contest, there will also be support races for different age groups across 10km, 5km, 3km, 2km and 1km distances.

The 10km race is expected to feature Dean Morgan and Lorna Gleave who both currently hold back-to-back men's and women's titles respectively in the Parish Walk.
