Athletics: Nikki Arthur 'mega proud' of Scottish award nomination

Island-based athlete praises role Isle of Man has played in career so far

An Isle of Man-based athlete says she's 'mega proud' to have been nominated for a prestigious award in Scotland.

Ultra-distance competitor Nikki Arthur is a finalist for Sportswoman of the Year at the 2024 Scottish Women in Sport (SWIS) awards taking place on Friday, 1 November.

The Manx Fell Runners' member has enjoyed several success this year so far including winning the women's class in the Spine Challenger North event in January and representing Great Britain last month at the 2024 Skyrunning World Championships in Spain.

Arthur says the role the Isle of Man has played in her rise in the world of sport is 'absolutely huge':

Arthur is one of three finalists for the Sportswoman of the Year accolade at the awards along with cyclists Neah Evans and Jenny Holl.

Also among her achievements in 2024 was being the Isle of Man's fastest female competitor at this year's London Marathon in April in a time of two hours, 55 minutes and 31 seconds.

Away from competition, Arthur has recently been co-ordinating a pilot performance programme which is helping more than 30 up-and-coming local athletes balance pursuing their chosen sports along with their studies.
