Callum Gawne wins Julie Brew Memorial Walk

Albert Johnson and Christa Cain were the big winners during this year's Western 10 challenge held last weekend.

The run along with the Julie Brew Memorial Walk took place in the west of the Island on Sunday (13 October) with Johnson claiming top spot in the run for the men's and overall categories.

Elsewhere, Cain was victorious in the women's run and ninth overall whilst first place in the memorial walk contest went to Callum Gawne.

The men's event saw Johnson pull out a small gap toward the end of the race on his nearest contender, Oliver Chambers, with Johnson crossing the line in 57 minutes and 19 seconds.

Chambers followed just nine seconds after in second with Phil Knox completing the top three in 57 minutes and 58 seconds.

Meanwhile, Cain's winning time in the women's contest of one hour and 27 seconds was the third fastest female time in the run's 43-year history.

Furthermore, that saw Cain cross the line nearly 17 minutes clear of the second-fastest female runner Steph Woods (one hour, 17 minutes, 12 seconds) and Alice Atkinson rounded out the women's top three in third (one hour, 19 minutes, 11 seconds).

When it came to the memorial walk challenge, Gawne's winning time of one hour, 24 minutes and 17 seconds moved him into fifth in the walk's all-time standings.

Second this time around in the men's walk was Gianni Epifani (one hour, 26 minutes, 38 seconds) and third was Chris Addy (one hour, 38 minutes, 18 seconds).

The fastest female time in the walk went to Rachel Grehem of one hour, 38 minutes, 33 seconds which sees her slot into sixth in the all-time female walk rankings.
