Athletics: Isle of Man track & field season begins

Busy series of events held at NSC on Wednesday evening (29 March)

The Isle of Man's track and field season got underway with a busy schedule of meetings in Douglas last night (29 March).

The Manx Harriers Junior Track & Field League on Wednesday evening was followed by a specially-arranged event for senior athletes competing at U17's and upwards ahead of the Island Games in July.

Those additional events included 100m, 200m, 400m and 5,000m races on track with high jump, long jump and shot put contests being held on-field.

In the track events, Tom Riley and Meghan Pilley took the top spots in the male and female 100m competitions respectively with the only 200m race being won by Ben Sinclair.

Meanwhile, in the 400m races it was Alex Bell who crossed the line first in the men's contest whilst the women's class was won by Lucy Ormsby.

Elsewhere, there was a high-calibre entry for the mixed 5,000m contest.

Corrin Leeming would go on to take first place in the contest with a time of 15 minutes 55.7 seconds, whilst the highest placed female was Rachael Franklin who clocked a time of 16 minutes 8.2 seconds to finish fourth overall.
