Manx teams excel across age groups in Blackburn

Isle of Man athletes have secured 12 medals in total during this year's Lancashire Cross Country Championships.

The successes - which included included three gold medals - ranged from the Under-11's age group up to veteran classes at Witton Park, Blackburn on Saturday, 4 January.

The gold medals came courtesy of Leighton Curphey winning the Boys Under-11's race; Gail Sheeley claiming victory in the V55 event and the Northern AC Under-20's squad claiming the top team position.

It's understood to be the third-most successful day the Isle of Man has had at the meeting in the last 32 years.

Among the other highlights, Northern AC's Sam Perry claimed two podiums - he won silver in the Under-20's race and bronze in the senior men's event.

Only two-time race winner Keith Gerrard and former second-placed finisher Ollie Lockley have finished higher than Perry in the senior men's race in relation to Manx participants.

Elsewhere both of the Manx Harriers Under-13 teams won team silver across the boys and girls classes.

Across the V35, V45 and V55 there were further medals secured through Hollie Quaye, Emma McMullan and Russell Collister respectively.
