Competitive races play out in mixed conditions

Simon Gawne and Lorna Gleave were those to take top honours during a busy and well-contested End to End Walk on Island this weekend.

This year's event saw 291 entries registered to take part - the highest numbers since 2012.

In wet and windy conditions, Gawne secured the win in the men's race, some distance clear of Stu Osborne in second with Chris Addy making up the men's top three in third.

Meanwhile, the women's race belonged to Gleave who was the first female competitor to reach the finish at The Sound.

What's more, Gleave's time of seven hours, 32 minutes and 23 seconds now slots in at the tenth quickest women's performance ever at the walk.

Aine Kane went on to take second in the women's contest with third place secured by Jayne Farquhar.

Elsewhere, in the Under-20's categories, Robert Farnworth was the first of the Men's U20's to cross the line with the top spot in the Women's U20's going to Kayleigh Denton.
